Gurus of Appreciateology
Dave arrived at O.C. Tanner offering his services without a job interview or offer. If the company wasn't pleased after three month's work (without pay) he'd pack his things. Lucky for us, 27 years later he's proven his determination, dedication and capabilities time and time again, in literally every department of the company. While many believe it's better to be lucky than good, Dave has shown us all that it's better to be excellent than lucky. He's encouraged this excellence while working in O.C. Tanner's Marketing, Purchasing, IT, Sales, Manufacturing and Client Relations departments over the years. He knows the ins and outs of our industry better than anybody. And his business experience around the world - including Botswana, Holland, France and the United Kingdom- coupled with an M.B.A. from Thunderbird American Graduate School of International Management, make him a globally-minded leader for an increasingly global company.
Whether he is in Germany or Jamaica, Ty Brown travels anywhere for a great adventure. That dedication helps appreciateology grow all over the globe. And, as our Vice President of International, Ty grows our people, too. He listens, he experiments, and he builds consensus. He aims to meet needs of colleagues and clients alike by drawing on his background in Operations, Human Resources, Sales, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain Management. He also has a bachelor's degree in Accounting and an M.B.A.—both from Brigham Young University. This reservoir of experience has benefitted our company since Ty joined O.C. Tanner in 2003, helping our organisation deliver award fulfillment solutions to clients in 130 countries. He shares all of his professional accomplishments with his staff, but the adventures Ty cherishes most are those with his wife and their four children.
Whether he is in a conference room or on a basketball court, Hal Hodges knows how to build and motivate a team. As a coach of our teams for the past 35 years, he continues to lead as our Vice President of O.C. Tanner Europe. An avid globetrotter, Hal travels the world, touting the power of appreciation to our clients. His background in Client Services and Sales—as well as a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University—make him a mentor to longtime colleagues and new employees alike. He has done everything from serving our clients throughout the United States to managing our operations across the pond. He listens, advises, teaches, and inspires. Those talents also serve him well as a coach, husband, father of six boys, and grandfather of 16 grandchildren.
With formal qualifications in cuisine, mentoring, training, project management, contract law, supplier negotiation, law administration and human resources -just to name a few- Carol understands our business. Five years ago, she stepped in to run Human Resources & Operations for O.C. Tanner Europe. At the time, the company was faced with incorporating a newly-acquired business into O.C. Tanner – a formidable task considering the vast operations and cultural differences. Carol loves a good challenge and in no time, her powerhouse team of 21 has increased almost every measure of success, including helping European sales grow by 34 percent in 2010, whilst serving 99,836 customers throughout Europe. When Carol is not helping others recognise their skills and magnifying them, appreciating the great work of her colleagues, or whipping up culinary delicacies, she spends time with her husband and two children. Carol credits her father for teaching her a very important lesson: people matter.
Our Vice President of European Sales and Marketing is a seasoned expert with more than 25 years of sales and marketing experience. Ian's valuable background has cultivated an effective hands-on management style as he leads our Business Managing Directors. His personal philosophy of "shooting for the universe" is spreading the power of appreciation through Europe, especially in the United Kingdom. His energy is palpable. He leads, he empowers, and he pioneers. Those efforts are working: European business grew 34 percent in 2010, and is positioned for continued growth throughout Europe in the years ahead. When he's not motivating his team or furthering the international reach of recognition, Ian enjoys spending time with his wife and five children, watching his boys play football, and participating in a variety of sports to unwind. |
